Final Reflection

Last semester I completed the first college writing course, WRC 1013. I will admit that I have never had a passion for writing, but I actually enjoyed my time spent in that class. My instructor, Professor Kenneth Johnston gave writing a completely new light in my eyes. This course gives students valuable tools that they can actually use later in life, not to just learn in order to pass a class. Suddenly I was interested in the topics we researched and discussed. To my surprise I was actually good at it. I had finally found a way for readers to hear my voice by creatively expressing how I feel with words. I appreciate that course because it enabled me to find something in myself that I had no clue existed.
Writing has always been a constant struggle for me. This is mainly because I did not know how to say what I feel or put my thoughts into words. I am a very visual person and writing on a blank sheet of paper honestly does not intrigue me in the slightest bit. I would much rather others interpret my thoughts and emotions through visuals like color, fabric, and clay instead of writing it down on a piece of paper. I recently found that writing can be as easy and pleasant for me as painting on a blank canvas. Thinking about a topic and writing my thoughts word for word as they go through my head allows me to covey to readers how I feel without making things too difficult for me. I would love to someday be able to write an essay without over thinking it.
This past semester I attended the second level to Freshman Composition, WRC 1023. Throughout this course we reviewed over the basic principles of Writing Arguments and learned how to impalement this into our writings.  This course has only furthered my interest in writing and gave it new meaning. after each essay that I have completed, I could tell that my writing got a little bit better. By the time that I completed my Research Proposal Argument, my final essay, I was able to convey one of my strongest arguments yet. Learning to write well will prove to benefit me and my life a great deal in the future and I am glad to have experienced it.
